As Her Turn On The Kill-List Drew Closer, “Ugly” Dog Believed Her Time Was Up

Amy, a pit bull mix, was only six months old when she came to Carson Animal Care in California. It was clear that she had been somewhat neglected. Her damaged skin was peeling in parts, and she appeared to be in great distress.

Amy was praised by the shelter staff as one of the “friendliest” dogs they had ever met. On the other hand, the barking and anxiousness of the other animals clearly worried Amy. Even after receiving treatment for her skin problem, Amy began to feel like an “ugly” dog like her would never be adopted.

As Amy’s death row date approached, the staff worked even harder to improve her chances of being adopted. They covered her in a colorful blanket and photographed her for future social media use. People noticed Amy’s gloomy, dejected expression despite the bright environment, and the photo quickly went viral.

Amy was eventually adopted by a family she met while she was at the shelter! Her new family named her Phoenix, which means “new beginning.” As she leaves the shelter and heads to her new home, Phoenix looks the happiest female in the facility's free-spirited escape video.
